As a founding partner of ARHM&F and former practice group leader of the Financial Services Practice Group for an AmLaw 20 national law firm, Alcides I. Avila brings exceptional strength to the practice, particularly in representing domestic and foreign clients in all aspects of bank regulatory, lending, mergers and acquisitions and other transactional matters. With over 27 years of experience, Mr. Avila regularly represents clients before the Federal Reserve, the FDIC, the Florida Office of Financial Regulation and other regulatory agencies. Mr. Avila has represented numerous foreign financial institutions and investors in establishing and expanding banking operations in the United States. Mr. Avila has also served as independent counsel to the Board of Directors of various banks in connection with compliance and enforcement actions. In addition to his banking practice, Mr. Avila has extensive experience in domestic and international business transactions, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions and financings.
A former General Counsel of the Florida International Bankers Association, Mr. Avila has also served as Chairman of its Legal and Regulatory Affairs Committee and as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He currently serves as a member of the International Banking Advisory Board of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the South Florida Banking Institute. Mr. Avila has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and seminars dealing with issues of bank regulation, the Bank Secrecy Act, the U.S.A. Patriot Act, and other banking law issues.
Mr. Avila has achieved the highest ranking assigned by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized in a number of leading publications including: Chambers & Partners Global (Latin American Corporate and Finance); Chambers & Partners U.S.A. (Banking and Finance-First Tier; Latin American Investment); Best Lawyers in America; Florida Trend Magazine's Legal Elite; one of South Florida Legal Guide's "Top Lawyers" and the Miami Herald's "Super Lawyers." In addition, he has been recently recognized by Lawdragon Magazine as one of the top dealmakers in the United States of America.
Mr. Avila earned a bachelor's degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Miami and his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame Law School, where he served as administrative editor of the University of Notre Dame Law Review.
